Algen from Orange Park, Florida
|
We could brag about our catamarans all day long, but we’d rather let you hear from our incredible family of World Cat owners!
Meet Algen from Orange Park, Florida. Here’s what he had to say about his 280DC-X:
“I was in the market for a modern family boat that could do it all; fish the flats, run off-shore, provide a stable, smooth ride, cut through the chop and wakes, and look good while doing it. Unbelievably the 280DC-X ticked all of the boxes!”

It’s Time to Think about Preparing Your Catamaran for Winter
|
While much of the country is experiencing "locals summer," it’s quickly getting cooler in other regions. Depending on where you live, it may be time to start thinking about how to maintain your catamaran during the winter months to ensure its longevity and performance. Below are our best tips for end of summer maintenance and winter preparation:
|
- Winterization: If you're in a region with freezing temperatures, winterize your boat's systems. Drain water from pipes, tanks, and systems susceptible to freezing. Use non-toxic antifreeze in systems where water might remain.
- Storage: Find an appropriate storage solution. If possible, store your catamaran in a covered area, like a garage or boat storage facility. If it must stay outdoors, invest in a sturdy cover to protect it from snow, ice, and debris.
- Engine Care: Follow the manufacturer's guidelines for winterizing engine(s). Flush the engine with fresh water to remove any salt or debris, change the oil and filter, and add fuel stabilizer to prevent fuel breakdown.
- Battery Maintenance: Remove the batteries and store them in a cool, dry place. Charge them periodically to maintain their health.
- Hull Maintenance: Clean the hull thoroughly to remove any marine growth or debris. Apply a protective coating or wax to preserve the hull's integrity during the winter months.
- Inspect and Repair: Use the winter downtime to inspect the entire boat for any signs of damage or wear. Repair any cracks, scratches, or damage to the hull, rigging, or other components.
- Interior Care: Remove any valuables or items that might be damaged by moisture. Clean and dry the interior thoroughly to prevent mold or mildew growth.
- Check Mooring Lines and Fenders: Ensure that mooring lines are in good condition and are properly adjusted to account for potential changes in water levels. Inspect and clean fenders to protect the boat while it's moored.
- Regular Checks: Periodically visit the boat to check for any issues, especially after heavy snowfall or storms. Remove snow buildup from the cover and check for any signs of leaks or damage.
- Professional Service: If you're not comfortable or experienced in winterizing a catamaran, consider hiring a professional to do the job. They can ensure that everything is properly taken care of.
|
Remember, proper maintenance and preparation for the winter months can significantly extend the life of your catamaran and ensure it's ready for use when the warmer season returns.

Sanibel Island and Captiva, FL
|
Tucked along Florida’s Gulf Coast, Sanibel Island and Captiva offer an idyllic escape for boating enthusiasts. These sister islands, known for their unspoiled beaches, abundant wildlife, and clear blue waters, are a boater's paradise where nature and adventure converge.
Sanibel Island and Captiva are connected by a short causeway, but the true magic of these islands is best experienced by boat. Whether piloting your own vessel or hopping on a charter, the calm Gulf waters provide a perfect playground for exploration.
Sanibel Island is famous for its seashell-strewn beaches and lush natural reserves. The island’s eastern side, near the Sanibel Lighthouse, offers easy access to the Gulf of Mexico and Pine Island Sound.
Captiva, located just to the north, is smaller and quieter but equally captivating. The island’s narrow shape means you’re never far from the water, with the Gulf on one side and the Pine Island Sound on the other. Captiva’s marinas provide ample docking facilities, making it a convenient stop for boaters.
The waters surrounding Sanibel and Captiva are teeming with marine life and dotted with hidden treasures. One of the most popular boating activities is island hopping. Nearby islands like Cayo Costa and Useppa Island offer pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters, perfect for a day of snorkeling, picnicking, or simply relaxing. Pine Island Sound, nestled between the islands and the mainland, is a serene area ideal for kayaking, fishing, and wildlife spotting. Here, you can drift through mangrove-lined channels, where you might encounter playful dolphins, gentle manatees, and a variety of bird species, including ospreys and pelicans.
For those looking to fish, the Gulf waters are rich with opportunities. Sanibel and Captiva are renowned for their sportfishing, with species like tarpon, snook, and redfish frequently caught in these waters. Whether you’re casting a line from your boat or joining a guided fishing tour, the thrill of the catch awaits.
The boating season is year-round, but late fall to early spring offer cooler, more comfortable temperatures and less humidity. The waters around Sanibel and Captiva are generally calm, but be mindful of shallow areas and sandbars, especially in Pine Island Sound. And during peak season (especially in winter), marina space can be limited, so it’s wise to reserve your spot in advance.
Boating at Sanibel Island and Captiva is more than just a leisurely pastime; it’s an opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural beauty and tranquility of Florida’s Gulf Coast. Whether you’re exploring hidden coves, fishing for the catch of the day, or simply cruising under the warm Florida sun, these islands offer a boating experience like no other.
